Dental Cleaning & X-Ray Process
When you come in for your dental cleaning or x-ray you will be seeing our dental hygienist. Bebe is our Registered Dental Hygienist who earned her degree from NYU and was described by one of our patients as “educational, pleasant and [with] great interpersonal skills.” Bebe will explain the steps of the dental cleaning and x-ray process and answer any questions you may have.
As part of our dedication to patient comfort, she will also describe your sedation options. If you are fearful or anxious of having a procedure or treatment, sedation dentistry can reduce your discomfort and calm your nerves. With nitrous inhalation, you will feel relaxed throughout your procedure. Effective and safe, the gas induces a mild level of sedation that will keep you comfortable during your treatment.
Bebe will begin the hygiene cleaning by gently removing hardened plaque, called tartar or calculus, that can cause a host of problems, including cavities and gum disease. She will then polish them to remove stains and more plaque. The polish is applied using a dental hand piece with a small rotating brush or rubber cup, and the polish contains both fluoride and an abrasive substance that will leave your teeth clean and protected.
Based on your exam results, Bebe may give you further instructions to follow at home. You may discuss flossing, brushing or any other general dental concerns you have. She will then take x-rays of your mouth using our Panoramic X-ray machine (a modern imaging machine that reduces the amount of ionizing radiation) to allow the doctor to examine your oral health.
