Veneers and Lumineers Q & A

DC Dental Spa

What are veneers?

Veneers are a very thin layer of porcelain that helps recreate the look of your natural teeth. Each veneer is custom-made to fit your individual teeth and then bonded in place. Veneers hide defects like:

  • Stains
  • Cracks
  • Holes
  • Misshapen teeth

Veneers can also help strengthen delicate teeth. Although veneers can be made out of resin composite materials, porcelain is the most resistant to staining and it also closely resembles the color of your actual tooth enamel.

Porcelain veneers like Lumineers are the best option for cosmetic purposes. During your consultation at DC Dental Spa, Dr. Marcus or Dr. Rex assesses your condition and discusses the potential options so you can find the best type of veneers for your specific needs.

What are the advantages of veneers?

Veneers improve crooked, broken, or misshapen teeth while maintaining their natural appearance. They also offer the following advantages:

  • Stain resistant
  • Well-tolerated by your gums
  • Can lighten darker teeth
  • Look great without the need for invasive dental work
  • Reinforce weak teeth
  • Less expensive than other dental procedures like crowns

Lumineers are a brand of veneer offered at DC Dental Spa. They’re digitally produced and about half as thin as a contact lens. They’re popular because they require less enamel removal and general prep while still being natural looking.

What should I expect when getting veneers?

The process begins with a consultation with Dr. Marcus or Dr. Rex to discuss your goals and determine the best type of veneers for your needs, after which you come back for a second appointment. During this appointment, your dentist removes a tiny layer of enamel from the surface of your existing teeth to make sure the veneers bond and fit properly. Once your teeth are prepped, they’ll take an impression of your teeth so the dental lab can create your custom veneers.

When the veneers arrive from the lab, you return to the office and have them custom fitted to each of your teeth. Once your teeth are entirely prepared for the bonding process, a unique adhesive is applied, the veneer is set, and a special light seals the veneer firmly in place. In no time your veneers are permanently set, and you have a new and improved smile.
